This just in: Korea adopts Act on the Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals (K-REACH)!

kreach4On 22 May 2013, more than two years after it was first proposed, a new REACH-like Act titled “Act on the Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals” (화학물질의 등록 및 평가에 관한 법률, often referred to as K-REACH) was signed into law. The Act, which will come into force on 1 January 2015, will establish a comprehensive chemicals management system in Korea by requiring chemicals to be registered and more chemicals to be evaluated for their hazards and risks, and have significant impacts especially on the chemical industry and users of chemicals.

Among others, the Act will require those who intend to manufacture or import new chemicals or one tonne or more of existing chemicals subject to registration per year to register the chemicals before they manufacture or import.
